September 21, 2021 If you’re relying on the government to support housing issues in your community, you may end up with ‘solutions’ that fail to address your needs. The partners at Clear Direction have 20+ years experience helping Indigenous communities develop successful processes to meet their individual housing needs. Here’s how it works … Step 1: Listening and learning We start by communicating with community leaders to better understand your unique housing needs and issues. Once we understand what you need, we can begin discussing potential housing solutions that can be developed by the community. This process is the foundation for all the work that lies ahead. Step 2: Collecting the data Next, we gather evidence and data to make the case for more funding. We’ll work with your community in completing housing assessments and tenant surveys that measure rates of overcrowding, health and safety needs, and the requirement for major repairs/replacements. Step 3: Managing the information We’ll then input the information into a housing database and management tools. These tools are free, secure, easy to use, and on the Google Drive platform – so they’re accessible anywhere there’s a data connection. We’ll work with your staff to use these tools to track operations, repairs and maintenance, wait lists, renovations, service contracts, tenant files, etc. These tools will help you plan, streamline work, and quickly compile reports as needed. Step 4: Finding solutions You live in your community, you know the issues, and you know what will work and what won’t work. With data and user-friendly systems in place, we’ll consult with your leadership and staff about what housing and infrastructure funding you require. We’ll also help develop community-led short- and long-term construction and maintenance plans. Step 5: Putting the plan into action Whether you’re looking to implement a new housing management system, policy or program; having a plan in place is fundamental. In this final step, we’ll help your community create an implementation strategy and timeline to ensure things go smoothly. We’ll be your Guide. Indigenous communities are chronically underfunded by the government. To make a case for more funding, governments demand you demonstrate the need through evidence and data.
Through our process, you will be well on their way to securing the funding for the projects your community needs. Clear Direction wants to help your community get to where it wants to be:
